Virgin to replace plastic bags with bio-cassava ones

Virgin Megastore will replace all its plastic shopping bags to bio-cassava bags in its UAE stores by October, a statement said.
"Trying to always implement initiatives to help save the planet; not to mention doing business for good, this is just the beginning for the Virgin Megastore brand. Plans are already underway to implement this initiative across its other Mena based stores," it added.
The programme is being carried out in partnership with Avani. These bags are 100 per cent natural, biodegradable, compostable, and certified non-toxic to humans and animals, it said.
Avani bio-cassava bags, coming from its top of the line facilities in Bali, Indonesia, have been developed through extensive research and renewable resources such as plants. Avani has evolved to become a one-stop-shop solution for eco-friendly needs not only in Bali but internationally.
Known for its edginess, Virgin Megastore has added its own twist to the bags by including strap-lines like ‘It’s Only Natural’ & ‘This Bag is a Hero’; aiming to get all its followers and customers to take a stand and omit single-use plastic. - TradeArabia News Service
